Near StrooDrie, you can find a number of great villages and towns, which are certainly worth the visit. We have made a list of a couple of those:
Meppel – used to be nothing more than a couple of farms. But as of the 15th century, the town developed quite rapidly. At that time, Meppel was separated from Kolderveen and was allowed to build its own church. Fast-forward to now: Meppel now is a flourishing city, with cosy squares, nice shops, great places to eat, characteristic buildings, and a number of annual and unique events. Will you be visiting StrooDrie in the summer? In that case, you should certainly check out the Donderdag Meppeldag on Thursdays!
Hoogeveen – The centre of Hoogeveen was named the Best Inner-city in the period of 2011-2013. And everyone who visits Hoogeveen knows immediately why that is. It is a really energetic, lively city with a great atmosphere. Here, you can find a number of stores, restaurants and bars, a theatre, a cinema, and much more. It is approximately a 10-minute drive from Dwingeloo.
Groningen – It is not really close by, but certainly worth the visit, especially if these trips to the North are not really something you do every day. It is as the people from Groningen say: ‘Nothing beats Groningen’. Groningen is a major city, but it is still very cosy. Enjoy a drink on a terrace, eat in one of the many restaurants, go shopping, or look at the many historical buildings. Another great option: climb the Martini tower!
